Confusion Between Inventory Vs. Bin Replenishment

October 2, 2012 By Kirsten Austin

why

Inventory Replenishment

At a very high level means replacing inventory that has been sold in order to meet your customer’s demand.  The trick of course is to properly calculate the correct amount of inventory so you do not carry too much or too little.

There are several software features within the Sage®500 application that  can help your company  if carefully implemented and used correctly.  There are also additional software applications that can help you calculate the ideal amount of inventory based on the demand, lead times, product line behaviors, trends and stock amounts you currently maintain.

Bin Replenishment

This is a little different.  Typically both manufacturers and distributors have items/parts that are popular or “fast moving.”  The items should be stocked in bins that are easily located and accessible for picking or production.  In DCWarehouse Automation we make it easier for you to keep the right amount of stock within designated specific bins.

We added even more intelligence including open order information
triggering warehouse personnel to move stock into your replenishment bins.

You have several options to help determine where stock should be moved from. In one method you can specifically determine a warehouse/item/bin and designate the source bins from which you wish to replenish the stock from.

For distributors who constantly have products moving throughout the warehouse, you can use our dynamic bin replenishment. This works by allowing the system to locate the best location to move stock from. Either way the results of bin replenishment include improved efficiency—specifically time spent traveling through your facility.

Implementing Bin Replenishment in your facilities is a very good idea.  We have customers who build in bin replenishment throughout the day and some who have a specific shift and time set aside for this activity.  The results, when implemented and executed correctly, are money and time saved in fulfillment and production.
