Cycle Counting Related to House Cleaning

November 25, 2014 By Kirsten Austin

New_Years_Eve_CelebrationFor the last seven years we have had a New Year’s Party at our home.  While I can say I thoroughly enjoy it, my husband did not.  I love it because I am super blessed to have a wonderful amount of great friends, family and neighbors that I hardly see throughout the year.  Our place was a mecca for a diverse group of various ages and backgrounds.   So how does this relate to cycle counting?

I’ve noticed that my husband was in a much better mood on New Year’s Eve Day if he was not bombarded with a list of chores.  Therefore, in preparation for this event, I start doing smaller more manageable tasks throughout the month of December.  I also gently assign smaller tasks to my family members including my husband.  Hence, on the day of the party we don’t have to run around in a panic and work countless hours to make our home presentable.

Inventory Cycle Counting is a process I firmly believe in.  Although many companies do an Annual Inventory Physical Count (Which typically results in over-time, a shut down or weekend work) and sometimes this is impossible to avoid (corporate mergers, audits etc.) it is much better to perform periodic cycle counts.   This means you count smaller more manageable groups of items that you select.  Groups of Items can be designated through item ranking (fast-moving, gross margin, etc.) location, product line, item types and more.

Our DCWarehouse Automation Customers that implement cycle count programs find a huge return on investment.  The first ROI point is inventory accuracy.  Without complete inventory accuracy you may be in danger of purchasing products you do not need or running out of products you need to meet your demand.  Both of these issues cost you money.  The second ROI point is customer service.  It is very important to retain your existing customers and hope for repeat business as well.  Part of doing this is to communicate accurately and timely the amount of inventory you have available for sale.  Another ROI point is eliminating over-time and chaos with huge physical inventories (or arguments).  Last but not least by performing periodic counts through the year you can quickly determine if your inventory is shrinking due to loss or worse.

So the moral to the story is Cycle Counting can help you enjoy your weekend.  Cycle Cleaning can help you enjoy your husband, possibly.
