So let’s just say in 2017 I had the most personally challenging year. (It prompted me to write this blog on how attitude helps). There was one blessing that I will never forget … the kindness of my brother who surprised me with a brand new Ford F150. This generous and selfless act of my brother restored my faith in life and people. Enough about that, let’s talk about the truck and the lessons learned from this.
If You Want Something Write It Down
I have ADD and have learned that self-discipline is extremely important. In order to function I make lists and utilize technology to keep things straight. My Personal Goals List is on my cabinet in my kitchen. I really wanted a truck and it was on my list for over a year. After researching so many trucks I could not entirely make up my mind. My brother Erich stated several times, “You still did not buy your truck?” You see that is where he got the idea.
“Stuff” Happens Get Over It
So when I first took my truck through a car wash … only asking the people a million questions to ensure my truck would come out OK … I was so happy with how clean it looked (white trucks get pretty dirty.) On that exact same day I parked it in our office parking lot. I walked into work but just had to look back several times at my nice clean truck! During my lunch break I walked down only to discover what seemed like a flock of rainbow eating birds had left behind! Oh well, back to the wash, no other choice.
You Can Learn New Skill Sets
I’m not kidding you, after driving a Toyota Camry for years, it was hard to drive my truck initially. It actually gave me even more respect for true truckers who drive those huge semis! It would literally take me minutes on end to pull my truck into my skinny garage. Once a proud parallel parking queen I was fearful and cautious with my big @#S truck. However after a few months and lots of practice I think I’ve got this down now.
Truckers Respect
My brother who also has a truck agreed with my finding, truckers seem to very respectful of one another! The communication is awesome! Case at hand, so many times I have simultaneously pulled up to a four way stop and the other trucker just waived me on. Several times while driving in slow traffic, other Ford F150 drivers would talk through their windows and either ask questions or compliment my truck. I usually park a little further away by myself in a parking lot to keep my truck scratch free and many times, I noticed more trucks near mine upon my return. It’s like a little respectful trucker community! Last but not least, when driving on a major highway going through construction I notice that truckers (Big and Small) give one another space!
When You Are Given a Gift Use it to Help Others
OK, so this is the really fun part! Being from Missouri and friends with a bunch of nature lovers, it is inevitable that someone always gets stuck in the mud. Using my four wheel drive and the super cool visual technology on my display I’ve pulled other cars to safety! Yes, what comes around goes around and blessings should be shared!
